Brainstorm and Rank Ideas
Generate a high-volume idea list spanning safe to contrarian, then score everything on impact and effort to surface the real winners.
Brainstorm solutions for: [THE PROBLEM OR GOAL, STATED SPECIFICALLY] Context: - Constraints that are real: [BUDGET, TIME, TEAM, TECH: whatever actually limits you] - What we've already tried or ruled out: [LIST, or "nothing yet"] - What success looks like in 90 days: [MEASURABLE OUTCOME] Step 1: Generate 20 ideas. Requirements: - Ideas 1-8: solid, proven approaches for this kind of problem. - Ideas 9-14: adaptations, approaches from OTHER industries or domains applied to mine (name the domain each comes from). - Ideas 15-20: contrarian or uncomfortable, including at least one "do less/stop doing something" idea and one "change the goal instead" idea. - One line each. No idea repeated in different words. Don't pad, if two ideas are 80% the same, merge them and keep counting. Step 2: Score every idea: Impact (1-5, on the 90-day success measure), Effort (1-5, given my constraints), Confidence (1-5, how sure you are the impact estimate is right; score low for ideas with many assumptions). Step 3: Rank the top 5 by impact-to-effort, adjusted for confidence. For each: why it ranks here, the first concrete step to test it cheaply within a week, and the main way it fails. Rules: respect the stated constraints in scoring, a great idea I can't afford scores low on effort-adjusted rank, but keep it on the list labeled "if constraints change". Don't flatter the obvious answer; if idea #1 is what everyone would say, the ranking must beat it or explain why it stands.
