Old Photo Restoration and Colorization
Restore damaged family photos with Nano Banana: repair scratches and fading, preserve identity, and colorize with era-accurate colors.
[Attach the old photo, then use this prompt:] Restore this old photograph. Repair the damage: remove all scratches, dust, stains, creases, tears, and faded or discolored areas. Rebuild any damaged parts of the image so they blend seamlessly with the surrounding detail. Preserve identity above all: keep every person's facial features, expressions, proportions, and characteristic details exactly as they are; restore clarity to the faces without inventing new features, and do not beautify, slim, or modernize anyone. Sharpen and clarify: recover fine detail in faces, clothing, and background naturally, without the over-sharpened or plastic look. Keep the original grain character of the photograph. [IF COLORIZING, ADD:] Colorize with historically accurate colors for [ERA + PLACE, e.g. "1950s rural America" / "1970s Eastern Europe"]: era-appropriate skin tones, clothing dyes, and muted environmental colors; the result should look like a well-preserved color photo from that time, with soft natural saturation. Output at high resolution.
How to use
Scan or photograph the original straight-on in even light: reflections and keystone angles get baked into the restoration. Work in two passes for badly damaged photos: restore first, review the faces, then colorize in a follow-up; combining both in one step gives the model too much freedom on identity. If a face changes, reply 'keep the restoration but restore this person's face exactly as the original'.
